The Wine
Gavi is a buzz word among lovers of Italian whites and Villa Broglia’s Anniversary release is exceptionally fine. It uses grapes from two of the family’s finest vineyards – one planted in 1953, the other in 1989. Both enjoy a splendid southerly exposure, at altitude, which encourages a long, slow ripening. A year’s ageing on its lees lends the wine a minerality and roundness that only the best Gavi ever achieve. It’s typical of the quality you’d expect from this exemplary family estate, with vineyards in the Classico area, purchased in 1972 by Bruno Broglia, a textile entrepreneur. Their wines regularly score highly with critics. This is a fine, racy dry white, with floral, pear and citrus freshness. Enjoy with antipasti or panfried fish.
