Never heard of small beers? They are low-strength ales, inspired by the ‘small beer’ brewed centuries ago, when Londoners drank water at their peril, and beer was a much safer bet! Based in Bermondsey, the Small Beer Brew Co have revived that tradition with their range of tasty beers that never exceed 2.8% alcohol. Their crisp, reviving lager balances hops, malt and mouthfeel – it’s ideal with Indian or Thai cuisine. The dark lager has notes of rich coffee, chocolate and toast, and is a great match for hard cheeses, pies and game dishes. And the hoppy steam beer is bursting with rich rye and tangy citrus with a hoppy finish – try with a Cajun gumbo or Spanish paella.
