The Wine
Pewsey Vale sounds more English than Aussie! That's because founder Joseph Gilbert was from Wiltshire. In 1847, he planted the first vineyard in the Eden Valley. Neglected during the war years, the vines were resurrected in 1961, with the support of renowned Wyndham Hill-Smith. The soils are poor and stony too, which makes them hard to work but ideal for pure, intense flavour. Winemaker Louisa Rose firmly believes the work, all sustainable and some organic, is done in the vineyard. This Riesling is one to snap up and enjoy, or cellar.
