The Wine
What started as a small plot, La Regola, in the village of Riparbella, to provide olive oil and wine for the family has blossomed exponentially. Today, the second generation Luca and Flavio continue the work of their father, Rolando. Luca is the winemaker, who started planting more vineyards and upgrading the cellar in the 1990s and introduced French barriques. Since then, the reputation of this excellent estate has soared. Antoni Galloni in Wine Advocate described it as a "gorgeous, expansive wine [that] needs time to blossom." Now at its peak of maturity, this is a silky, well aged red, with dried red fruits and tobacco spice complexity. Cabernet Franc, with Merlot and Petit Verdot, it's a red to pore over with game or a rich pasta dish.
