The Wine
This is a fabulous Limited-Edition Riserva from the very south of Italy. So good Luca Maroni scored it 98 Points. It’s a joint project with Sofia Barbanera at her family estate in Tuscany and their excellent wine consultant, Andrea Bernardini. They discovered an exceptional Primitivo vineyard in the prized Manduria region of Puglia that was too good to pass up. Here summer days are hot, with a cooling breeze from the nearby ocean, plus a most welcome drop in temperature at night. Its soils are just the ticket too – iron-rich terra rossa over limestone. Primitivo bush vines love it! Now four years’ old, it’s deliciously mellow and complex with dark plummy fruit, sweet spices and gentle oak. Just the partner for hearty dishes and game.
