If you’re after a refined, elegant Margaux that won’t break the bank, check out Château d’Arsac. Influential US critic James Suckling called it "dramatic and ambitious" giving it 92 Points and from a fruit laden vintage, it supple and seductive too.

The Wine
Château d’Arsac is one of the oldest estates in Bordeaux. Dating back to the 12th century, it grew to become one of the largest in the Médoc. The original buildings were destroyed during the French Revolution, rebuilt during the 1930s, while the vineyards were devoured in the early 1900s. That was the work of the vine-eating louse phylloxera. Depression hit next and the estate was abandoned by the 1930s. In 1986, Philippe Raoux acquired it, replanting the vineyards and restoring the lovely château. 30 year old vines now produce grapes with lovely intensity of flavour. With a gentle hand during vinification, the wine was aged a year in new and seasoned oak casks to produce this elegantly fruity, ageworthy claret. To enjoy now, decant early.

Quite a serious tannic structure married to crisp acidity makes this a dramatic and ambitious 2015
