The Wine
Uber-critic Robert Parker called this fine Margaux “lush, complex and seductive”, with “endearing blackcurrant and black cherry fruit, a hint of plum, and a long, heady mouthfeel”, awarding the 2012 vintage 89 points. Dating back to the 12th century, Château d’Arsac is one of the oldest wine estates in Bordeaux, and became one of the largest in the Médoc. But in the early 1900s its vineyards were devastated by the vine eating louse phylloxera, and by the 1930s they had been abandoned. In 1986 Philippe Raoux acquired the estate, replanted the vineyards and restored the property back to its full glory. 30-year old vines now produce dense, richly fruity, ageworthy clarets. To enjoy this wine now, decant early and serve with roast lamb or game.

Big, fruity, structured wine. Ripe and rich – packed with black plum – and yet modern and polished
