Champagne Cazals La Chapelle du Clos Grand Cru 2011

The Côtes des Blancs is a patchwork of vines that’s home to the greats of Champagne, including Krug and Salon. The latter sells for £300 a bottle, yet nestled within Salon’s boundary is a charming little vineyard. It's protected by an ancient wall (or clos) and has been owned for decades by the Cazals family. For years the high and mighty have offered small fortunes for the plot, but Madame Cazals refuses to part with her family’s precious heirloom. In fact, we only got to hear about it thanks to our Buyer’s research (such is his passion for the region, he’s written a book). He charmed Delphine Cazals into parting with a few cases. With five years' age, it’s golden hued with toasted brioche, nut and peachy complexity. Top class fizz.
