The Wine
Established in 1685 by the pioneering Nicolas de Lanoy (after whom this flagship wine is named), Boschendal estate is a cradle of history and great winemaking. It lies between Franschhoek and Stellenbosch and every year wins scores of medals, trophies and top marks. Careful restoration over the last decade has made it terrific place to search out great wine. Flora and fauna conservation is a priority as well. For this wine, they sought out the finest grapes from the renowned Stellenbosch region – Cabernet, Shiraz, Merlot and Malbec, barrel matured for 14 months in part new (30%) oak barrels. Gorgeously rich, ripe and velvety, this grand, weighty red is a must for hearty dishes – a beef or vegetable casserole, lamb shanks or cheese.
