Batch founder Phil Whitwell used to be an IT consultant but when he came into an inheritance he decided this was the moment to start his own business. A chance trip to Madrid and one of the city’s great gin bars, with its impressive list of 30 gins and 10 tonics, made an impression. He returned home determined to create a gin like no other, and spent months perfecting the blend. Very much a family operation, Batch started in Phil’s nephew’s basement but now operates from a former mill in Burnley, with a bespoke still, Adrian! They launch a special recipe gin every month, just 200 bottles. Infused with an array of botanicals including Buddha’s hand (a Chinese citrus fruit) Sichuan pepper, juniper and coriander, this exotic gin is ravishing.
