The Wine
Antinori is renowned for driving through a revolution in Tuscan winemaking in the 1970s. His most famous estates are Sassicaia and Tignanello, the latter just 3km away from beautiful Badia a Passignano. This property has 65 hectares of prime vineyards in an outstanding part of Chianti Classico, with the winery based in the 1000-year-old monastery, from which it takes its name. Its maze of underground cellars house the many barrels of ageing wine. Gran Selezione is a new category in Chianti, making top flight wines made from the finest grapes and aged a minimum of 30 months in oak. Opulent ripe fruit underscored by taut freshness and silky tannins, this is a wine of depth and intensity. Decant and serve with ragù or truffle tagliatelle.
