The Beer
You’d be forgiven for thinking a beer made from organic quinoa is peak hipster, but there’s method to Altiplano’s origins. Its brewer, Alexandre Koiransky, was working for a Cognac house when he decided to launch his own fair trade drinks brand, beginning with Fair Vodka. Before the distillation process for his vodka can begin, Alexandre has to make a fermented quinoa ‘beer’. So he and his friend Didier Merland set about creating this tasty ‘llama’ beer as well. They originally sourced their quinoa from the Peruvian Altiplano (‘high plateau’) region, hence the name. But it now comes from organic farms in the Loire Valley. A refreshing glass to enjoy in the sun, Altiplano is also great with salty bar snacks, or smashed avocado on sourdough.
