The Wine
Roche de Bellene is the craftsmanship of Nicolas Potel, who learnt from his renowned father Gérard, studied in Beaune, then gained experience at top addresses in Oz and California. His father's early death meant the family estate had to be sold and Nicolas had to build from nothing. At his new enterprise Nicolas has 18 hectares of vines in some of the finest locations. In addition, he sources top-quality, old-vine grapes to make exceptional wines that are intense and expressive. Champ Gain stands apart from much of Puligny for its elevation and soils, which results in wine with vibrant citrusy elegance. Our Fine Wine Team summarised: "a serious Premier Cru Puligny with a chalky mineral undertow that sets it apart from the village wine."
