The Wine
Vieux Télégraphe is no overnight sensation – the family have been building their domaine and reputation for 130 years. It was founded in 1891 by Henri Brunier, who gave his son Hippolyte a small plot in La Crau, a high plateau regarded then as almost unfit for cultivation! That was due to the high ratio of pebbles to soil. Now, of course, it's recognised as Châteauneuf's finest terroir. It's also where Claudio Chappe, inventor of the optical telegraph, built one of his signal towers in 1821, hence the domaine's name.
