Father's Day Beer and Wine Gift Guide

Posted on May 24, 2024 by Steve Rumble

It can be difficult to find the right present for dad on Father's Day ... but our beer and wine selection has you covered. This is your handy guide to getting dad the perfect Father's Day gift. Read on to find out more.

Decisions, decisions! It can be difficult to know just what to get dad on Father’s Day. Forget socks, ditch the DVDs, bin off the mugs … there’s only one gift that the discerning drinker wants on Father’s Day. No, make that two. Great wine and delicious beer. And we’re here to make sure you’re all raising a glass of something he absolutely loves on Sunday June 16th. Cheers to a memorable day!

What are the best wine and beer picks for Father’s Day?

Well, it all comes down to personal taste. Is the dad you’re buying for into big, bold flavours? Or is subtle more his thing? Perhaps he’s a bit of a barbecue king and likes beers and wines that are guaranteed to stand up to hearty food. Or he just wants something sparkling and celebratory. Fear not, we’ve plenty of choices to match every taste.

Spoil Dad on Father’s Day with fine sparkling wine

So, here’s your failsafe choice. Everyone loves a good glass of bubbly on their big day. And if the dad you’re buying for has really earned it (of course he has!) then you’ve got to go for Champagne.

Choose from superb independent grower Champagnes (our top recommendations for quality and value) as well as the famous Grandes Marques. Or if dad prefers a lighter, fruitier style of fizz, why not go for a Prosecco?

Find your perfect Father’s Day bubbly in our range of sparkling wine.

Is white wine a good Father’s Day present idea?

Absolutely! Because with Father’s Day falling in the middle of June, you’ll want to make sure his fridge is full of mouthwatering whites to reward him after some hard graft out in the garden.

How about a tropical fruit-packed New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc or something from our hugely popular range of South African whites?

Hearty red wines make perfect Father’s Day gifts

What wine-loving dad doesn’t adore the big, mouthfilling flavours of a Black Red? These are the darkest, most satisfyingly smooth wines in our cellars. And they really excel at barbecues because they have more than enough flavour and tannin to stand up to all kinds of char-grilled food.

So, if dad fancies himself as the master BBQ chef, get him a red like our all-time bestseller, Cabalié, or legendary Aussie favourite, The Black Stump. Barbecue wines and Father’s Day gift done in one order!

Will fine wine make dad’s day extra special?

It’s not every day that dad gets pampered. So, if he has a passion for the finer things in life, you might want to select him a luxury claret, a super-smooth Rioja, a richly textured white Burgundy or something else from our fine wine range.

So go on, push the boat out – and do all you can to encourage him to open the really good stuff while you’re in his company!

Give him beer … come on, it’s Father’s Day after all!

Now, there are some dads (the author penning this blog, for example) who’d feel a bit put out if there weren’t a few cans or bottles of full-flavoured beer to unbox, crack open and savour on Father’s Day. But which beer should you choose?

Well, if he likes a good, refreshing lager, we highly recommend Hawkstone. It’s brewed using barley from Jeremy Clarkson’s Diddly Squat Farm and has delicious citrus top notes. Hawkstone call it ‘Jeremy’s Thinking Juice’ and there’s so much fresh flavour and satisfying smoothness for dad to ponder over when he pours himself a cold one. If dad’s a Clarkson’s Farm fan, he might be more ‘Team Kaleb’ than ‘Team Jeremy’ and would prefer to down a cold Hawkstone Cider. Either way, satisfying refreshment is guaranteed.

What if dad prefers a classic European lager? You cannot go wrong with Primátor, the crisp Czech pilsner that’s been our customers’ No.1 beer for decades. Brewed to very strict purity laws and coming in at a proper, continental strength 5% alcohol.

Or perhaps dad’s a bit more of a real ale man and loves nothing more than a hand-pulled pint? We can’t quite recreate that exact experience (you’ll have to take him to the pub for that!). However, we can guarantee that he’s going to adore the malty richness and fresh hoppy notes of Abingdon Bridge, the flagship ale of Oxfordshire’s Loose Cannon Brewery. It comes in big half-litre bottles (so the beer will look great in a pint glass) and really is an authentic, traditional English amber ale.

And should dad be a craft ale convert and into hoppy, modern pale ales, go for Loose Cannon Session IPA. Modest strength, maximum flavour.
