Choosing Your Wine

When to serve red, white or sparkling

Knowing which wine style to choose or how many bottles to buy can be daunting. Our experts are on hand to help you choose the ideal wine to make your special day even more perfect. Make an appointment in store for your guided wedding wine tasting.

Food Matching

Main

Salmon
A white Burgundy or lightly oaked New World Chardonnay. For red try a light Pinot Noir.

White Fish
A fresh, citrusy New World Sauvignon Blanc or a light, fruity Beaujolais.

Poultry
Depending on the sauce, we'd suggest a Chardonnay or fruity Chenin Blanc. Or look for reds with soft tannins and berry fruits like Sangiovese or Tempranillo.

Lamb
A soft, rich Rioja is perfect, but a silky smooth New World Cabernet Sauvignon would work equally well.

Beef
A rich Bordeaux, spicy Australian Shiraz or vibrant Argentinean Malbec would be ideal.

Vegetarian
A soft Italian red would be great as would a plummy Chilean Merlot, or a medium-bodied Chenin Blanc.

Starters

Paté
A light, fruity Italian red or, for something slightly different, try serving a rich white Rioja.

Fish
A great match with a light, crisp white wine such as Albariño, New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio.

Melon & Parma Ham
Great with rich, aromatic whites such as Chenin Blanc or New World Viognier.

Tips & Advice

We are always happy to help match wines with your wedding breakfast, however sometimes it's preferable to keep things simple. If you would rather just one white and one red that everybody will enjoy, we have plenty of suggestions to help you with that decision.

Calculate how many bottles you need

Did you know, on average, more red is consumed than white? Or that typically you will get four or five glasses from a single bottle? From our experience, we suggest you need two or three glasses of wine per guest to enjoy during dinner and a 60/40 split of reds and whites.
