For 18 years, RedHeads has been pioneering terrific, award-winning wines in various cellars, firstly in McLaren Vale, then in the Barossa. In 2018, they finally put down real roots – a small boutique cellar with a vineyard, surrounded on all sides by some of the biggest names in Aussie wine. They built the winery from scratch, so sustainability could be firmly at its core – from its solar-panel roof to its water reuse and local sourcing. To date, they’ve won four major awards for their green credentials.

RedHeads has always had a reputation for hunting down the very finest grapes from small-time growers … their mates, some of the families of which have been nurturing vineyards for over a hundred years. They liberate these exceptional grapes from larger, anonymous blends and allow them to shine in their own small-batch wines. Fans adore them, growers too, and they’ve won eleven Trophies and over 240 Golds along the way.

However, their ‘real roots’ comprise an 8-hectare vineyard, just in front of the winery. Using grapes tended here, the team makes their fabulous dark, weighty Shiraz 1888 (named after the old 1888 cottage on the site, one of the oldest buildings in the Barossa, now lovingly restored). 1888 is an intense, smoky, blackberry and spice-filled Shiraz, barrel-aged for extra rich layers of complexity and produced in very limited quantities for its Vineyard Partners.
